In cooperation with the public cooperative society Inn-Salzach eG, EGIS for short, we realized a flagship project with the solar park Wachenbrunn. Since May 13, the plant is connected to the grid and delivers green electricity to German households.”Hopefully it´s an inspiration and encouragement for other cooperatives to tackle and implement such projects “, said EGIS board member Christoph Strasser in his statement about Germany’s probably largest citizen’s energy project of 2015.
In this civic project of the EGIS, the investment was pre-financed by project partner MaxSolar. The 8.7 megawatts were built in just three months and completed with grid connection. The electricity from the system prevents 2,800 tonnes of CO² per year and supplies up to 2,200 households with clean solar power. EGIS expects an annual return on the investment of around € 760,000 and a return of 3-4% per annum. The EGIS Citizen Participation Model offers all German citizens the opportunity to benefit from the energy transition through direct participation in the cooperative society. The concept seems to work, because in the first seven weeks almost half of the 10,440 shares were subscribed.
